Description: This course approaches the art of fiction with the conviction that good writers must be careful readers. Close reading will be integral as we study craft elements such as characterization, scene, and dialogue along with selected works from contemporary masters of the short story. Exercises and writing prompts will lead to workshopping our own story drafts. Process and discovery are emphasized, with attention given both to generation and revision.
